*Mexico’s government welcomed over 1,000 political Chilean exiles (and later those of other South American dictatorships). It’s no surprise that in 1978 the Revista de la Universidad de Mexico, a leading cultural publication, featured a special dossier on Chile. Among the contributors were Fernando Alegria (already teaching at Stanford) and a young playwright (Ariel Dorfman) that would later teach at Duke University.
