The UK poster for Twins. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito stand side by side against a bright blue sky, both wearing matching beige suits and sunglasses. Schwarzenegger is very tall and upright; DeVito is much shorter and leaning slightly, emphasising the contrast between them. The title TWINS appears in large red letters above their heads, with their surnames “Schwarzenegger” and “DeVito” at the top. The tagline reads: “Only their mother can tell them apart.”

Apparently, because of a profit-share deal, this ended up being the biggest pay cheque of both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito’s film careers.

Pleased to have made a small contribution to that.

A blue-and-white Wycombe cinema ticket for Die Hard (18 certificate), dated Friday 7 February 1989. The ticket shows cinema number, row and seat details, with perforated edges, photographed against a dark background. The date “7.2.89” appears faintly beneath the ticket.

The original Die Hard film poster. Bruce Willis’s face fills the right side, looking tense and injured. At the centre, a tall skyscraper explodes near the top with flames and a helicopter overhead. The tagline reads “40 stories of sheer adventure!” with additional text describing a lone cop trapped inside the building.

The most notable thing about this ticket is the reminder that Die Hard was an 18 certificate in the UK. These days I’m pretty sure ITV show it unedited on Sunday afternoons.

A slightly battered UK cinema ticket from 1988 for Biloxi Blues. The paper is faded and creased, with the film title clearly printed, a very typical example of late-1980s cinema ticket stock.

Poster for Biloxi Blues (1988). Matthew Broderick stands in U.S. Army uniform among a group of young recruits during World War II. The image suggests a mix of comedy and coming-of-age awkwardness set against the strict routines of military training.

In 1988, I suspect I went to see this more for Matthew Broderick than for Neil Simon. What I remember most, though, is coming away struck by just how good Christopher Walken was.

Original UK poster for Vice Versa (1987). A suited man with loosened tie and red trainers is mid-air above a chaotic office desk tipped at an angle, papers and objects flying everywhere. The tagline reads: “Just when he was ready for mid-life crisis, something unexpected came up. Puberty.”

Who knew this particular ’80s body-swap flop was written by Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais of Porridge and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet fame? I certainly didn’t.

Also, this makes two films in a row where someone takes a blow to the nards.
