39. When Harry Met Sally...

Love is real!

In a way, I'd like to see a movie where they actually do just remain close friends, but this movie is still super sweet and really fucking funny.

God, this film has mastered the awkward silence.

38. The Bodyguard

The least thrilling "thriller" I've seen. It's too invested in trying to sell me the romance (it didn't succeed) and puts the stalking plot to the side, which is a shame because I think it would've been great to put more focus on.

I should just watch Perfect Blue.

Goddamn, this film is still a visual and audio masterpiece. The animation is gorgeous and the music by Geinoh Yamashirogumi is still hauntingly beautiful.

It is through this rewatch I can see the story in the middle is a compromise for time. I'll definitely read the manga.

While not as strong as season 1 (which was already a super high bar), this season is still pretty good. I think it's impossible to recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle magic that was season 1 but season 2 comes semi-close.

We will miss you, Samira Mohan/Supriya Ganesh <3

Had a great time! If only because I know of the myth. But the performances and music were really dang good! Those Fates can harmonise.

If I were Orpheus, I would simply not turn around at the very end. What, is he STUPID or something?

★★ 35. Hadestown (London)

Upon rewatch, I really appreciate the jazz-blues music much more. Our Hades had the most booming voice. He was awesome!

If I were Eurydice, I would simply leap out of hell and throttle Orpheus for being a dumb son of a bitch. What, is he STUPID or something?

34. Stand By Me

Damn, dude... I miss being a kid. And this film put me right back in the shoes of a young 12-year-old kid just messing around and living life with what friends I had. This movie is oddly comforting and depressing at the same time.

Teddy would've loved Reddit.

An enjoyable arcade-like game. The on-rails flying sections are pretty fun, even the Blue Marine and Landmaster sections. I wasn't so hot on the All-Range mode parts, especially the last Star Wolf fight.

I do think at this point, the show was getting a little too silly for its own good (sorta Simpsons-esque in a way), but this season has some absolute gems of episodes.

31. This Is Spın̈al Tap

This movie has some golden lines of crazy dialogue in the interview sections, so it's a crying shame that there's so few of them. I did enjoy the other bits, but hearing Nigel say some of the most batshit insane dialogue to Marty was what I yearned for.

This is somehow both better and worse than the first one.

Better: Less pandering (comparatively), better action scenes, Luigi and Peach do things.

Worse: No story, no structure, no substance. I literally felt next to nothing watching this.

On the whole, this movie ranges from "whatever" to "alright". Some musical numbers are neat, and Steve Martin (and Bill Murray) was doing an insane job, but it feels so small scale overall.

I'm not sure what to make of this. It's giving me "end of JoJolion" vibes: Fujimoto wrote himself into a corner, felt spent with the story and just went "here, damn" with an ending.

But I'll save my rating for Part 2 as a whole when I reread it.

I had a good time with it, but there's a part of me that would love to see a compromise between the dread and horror of Iron Lung and the better story structure and levity of this film.

I enjoyed it, but I can't help but feel like the second half would've been elevated if the Creature didn't narrate it. Victor narrating his half made sense, but the Creature's tale could've been a powerful word-lite story.
