October 29 kill list I dare say this is one of the more disturbing movies that I’ve watched this year. You can definitely see the influence that wicker man and blood on Satan‘s claw head on the director and the writers. It also feels vaguely inspired by arthurian myth. Another slow burn but worth it in the end I think 7.5/10.

October 28th ugly stepsister so let me preface this by saying that I am a sucker for any sort of adaptation of a grooms fairytale. That shit is my bread and butter. It was a little too gory for my liking. I’m not really big into body horror as a general rule. I like my dread creeping. But pretty decent movie. It is in Norwegian. 8.5/10.

October 26 you won’t be alone this Macedonian folklore film was not what I expected to be. It’s not a traditional horror movie in a traditional sense. It’s sort of bizarre and unconventional and sort of reminds me a little bit of the witch. Again, a bit of a slow burn and the pacing might not be for everyone. But God, beautiful. 7.5/10.

October 25 Snow white: a tale of terror. I honestly forgot about this movie, it was originally supposed to be at theatrical release, but it was released on Showtime in the 90s. Sigourney Weaver was amazing. The location was great, the costumes were great, the pacing was a little odd, and it wasn’t as terrifying as it claimed to be. 6.5/10.

October 24 lamb so this movie was like a modern folk tale but I wasn’t really 100% sure how I feel about it. It was beautiful, a great slow burn, but the ending was so odd. It felt like the beginning had a really compelling start, but the end was just underwhelming. Despite that really enjoyed it. 8/10.

Like the story doesn’t connect. The acting is in terrible, but it’s not fantastic. There’s no horror or a series of events? The review I’m giving is generous. 2/10.

October 22 Kuroneko this Japanese horror movie from the 1960s has some pretty cool otherworldly visuals. As a ghost story it is impeccable. It has such a poetic sense of justice which I really appreciate. 9/10.

October 17 Viy this Soviet era 1960s movie from Ukraine really packed a visual bunch. It’s got interesting pacing, the story is fascinating, and it’s steep in this incredible dark fairytale vibe. It’s dated, of course, but it’s a valuable movie to watch in the genre. 7/10.

October 15, hellbender. This one is an independent movie about an incredibly sheltered and isolated girl who discovers that she’s a witch. It’s sort of a coming-of-age story and a bit of a slow burn. But holy shit, that ending was everything. Just superb. 9.5/10.

October 13, Gretel and Hansel OK look I have read this fairytale from Grims multiple times and multiple iterations. I’ve seen most movies that have to do with this particular fairytale. This is a lot darker than a lot of those other adaptations of the story. It’s beautiful to look at. It gives a real sense of for boating. 6.5/10.

October 9, the witch another Robert Eggers joint this movie is such a slow burn, but it is so brilliant and it’s execution. It really does capture a time of fear and suspicion. It really doesn’t make you understand the Puritanical mindset. Honestly, I was rooting for the devil the whole time. Everybody loves black Philip. 9.5/10.

October 8 eves bayou I don’t know why I have never watched this movie. This movie is so incredible. It is dripping in southern Gothic horror. It takes place in Louisiana, it’s got voodoo, it’s got all black cast, Samuel L Jackson is fantastic, Jurnee Smollett is fantastic, Diahann Carroll is perfect. The ending is just brilliant. 9/10.

October 7 Lord of Misrule this was actually a pretty interesting movie, but it gave me massive wicker man vibes. It gave me blood on Satan‘s claw vibes. I think the whole mix of packing and Christian theology has been kind of done to death, especially in English folk horror. It would be nice to see something else. Not a bad movie though. 6/10.
