The Exorcist, 1979
⭐⭐⭐⭐
It’s a good movie. Not in my personal top 10 but a lot of people would say it’s the best horror ever made.
They’re wrong, but maybe you should listen to them. I’m wrong a lot!

Baghead, 2023
⭐⭐⭐
Production is good. Cast is a bit weak and the story is middling - interesting concept with a few twists.
The monster is well done, but the CGI is a bit schlocky. Almost like it's an AI movie.
Should have used more Peter Mullan and less CGI.

When Evil Lurks, 2023
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nothing really scares me anymore. I maybe get a chill or two.
This one didn't quite scare me, but it is one where I'm either yelling at the screen "she said don't do that" or simply staring in awe.
Best horror film of the last 5 years.

The House That Dripped Blood, 1971

A favorite from my childhood. It's kind of dated now, but has Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee so it's still worth a watch if you're a fan of the Hammer films.
An extra star for Ingrid Pitt!

The Innkeepers, 2011
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It's not some action flick or zombie war movie. It's a ghost story and my favorite Ti West movie. I liked House of the Devil and the X films, but I love this one.
It's stylish, atmospheric, and brilliantly directed. Slow burn done well!

Don’t miss this one. It’s amazing.

Incident in a Ghostland, 2018
⭐⭐⭐⭐
One of the most terrifying and heartbreaking horror movies I’ve seen. Not for the faint of heart but the story is more interesting than it appears at first glance.
Warning: it is violent.

Alien, 1979
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
H. R. Giger's monster & set design made this movie the best creature feature since the Black Lagoon. Still one of the best horror movies of all time. Atmosphere, tension, story, cast ... and it's scary too.
This is horror done right.

Weapons, 2025
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lots of budget here so quality is high. Story is good too.
There's nothing here to hate, but it's not very scary. More like a thriller with a couple of bloody scenes.
Definitely worth a watch. It's a lot better than most.

Dead End, 2003

I was flipping through channels one night and found this one by happy accident. I rewatch every year. The cast and dialogue make this movie a very fun watch.
You’ll see the ending a mile away but it’s still worth the time.

825 Forest Road, 2025
⭐⭐⭐
Actually a pretty good ghost story. Production is weak and I'm sure the budget was a factor. Cast is average at best with one standout: Elizabeth Vermilyea. There's 3 main characters sharing screen time but only Vermilyea showed up.

I've always been a sucker for anthology type movies: The House That Dripped Blood, Tales From the Crypt, etc.
Ghost Stories is one of the best of them.

The Devil's Doorway, 2018
⭐
Probably unfair to rate this one. I couldn't watch it. Turned it off after 20 minutes.
I hate found footage. Most are about budget, not story. The horrible transitions between scenes to make it 'real' were more than I could stand.

Spiral, 2019
⭐⭐
Worst I've seen this year. It's a typical story of family moving to town where the townsfolk are a cult. Everything in this movie has been done before.
I did manage to watch it all the way through, but I wouldn't recommend anyone else doing that.

Ghost Story, 1981
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I haven't seen it in years. I was unfair to this one. I read the book first and the movie didn't live up to it - no surprise there. It's a cliche for a reason.
Still a good movie. Even some gratuitous nudity. I kinda miss gratuitous nudity!

Production values are there, the cast is fine. But overall - meh.
About 20 minutes in I was thinking I had seen it. I checked the date it came out thinking it was an older movie.
It’s just nothing new. Formulaic crap.

Not quite a zombie movie but it is one.
I remember liking this one when it came out. First zombie movie in a while that was decent. Worth a watch now, but only if you don't have a better one. Clever dialog but very familiar story.

Ok, I'll admit it - I love folk horror. Not sure why, but it really works for me.

One of the best ghost stories ever. My answer to the question, 'I don't like horror, what should I watch?'
Perfect for ages 12+
Will give you a few chills & scare the crap out of your kids.
Would be a 5⭐️ but there are a few prod issues.

Really expected to hate it. I’m not a big fan of slashers and figured it was one.
So much fun! It’s Scream meets slasher but doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Great movie. Probably more of an action film than horror. Feels like it would be a low budget movie but looks like a Hollywood film. Even the cast is excellent.
The 'monster' effects are a bit cheesy, but overall well worth the watch.
