Give it a shake then, needs more shuffling 😜
Genuinely 3 of those in my top 25 of the decade (based on my #5albums database)
I know what you mean Jon.
Similarly I was harsher in the early days of my library ranking, so a lot 3* which I’d probably rate 4* now, there’s a ranking creep I’ve found whilst comparing albums under the #5albums challenges.
#5debutalbums7579 Mink Deville - Cabretta (1977) The great thing about #5albums is revisiting dusty, rarely explored parts of the collection. It's been years since this graced my turntable. Rich in 50/60s RnB and The Stones. And Willy had immaculate hair. #VinylCommunity
If I hadn’t checked my #5albums post, I’d have given a vote to the lesser known Psycho Andy …
4 great albums. I refused to play any Yes for years, but the #5albums thing had me playing and really enjoying them again (and loads of other stuff that I’d been stupidly avoiding). Really like Anderson’s voice for some reason. 🙂
There are no lists for the #5debutalbums series, as there were for the #5albums series. It’s what ever you consider to be the best debut albums in that period.
That moment when one of @richards7370.bsky.social #5Albums retweets appear on your feed, you think fuck yeah that’s an incredible album, go to hit the like…then realise it’s your own post 🙈
In with a big chance of getting into my #5DebutAlbums0509
Respect and really like Bowie but not as big a fan as most of the #5albums community, but these covers are exquisite…
Seu Jorge - The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions
#NowPlaying #cdsky #musicsky
Played this for #5albums a while ago, but some of these incredible songs have remained lodged in the noggin. An absolute masterpiece.
Outer sleeve and spinning vinyl record. The Sonics (1965) “Here Are The Sonics”
Skipping a few from ‘64 and moving into ‘65 for #5debutalbums50s60s. I picked this up for a previous #5albums poll. Great American garage rock! #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
3. Future Days - Can
Future Days 1973
9 mins
#70sTop30
My entry point to Can and the wonderful Kosmische Musik scene, which I’ve happily explored extensively during the #5albums years. This is such a laid back and chilled track.
Outer sleeve and spinning vinyl record. Joan Baez (1960) s/t
I spun this one a while ago for one of the previous #5albums polls, and didn’t enjoy it very much. Let’s try again for #5debutalbums50s60s. #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
Outer sleeve and spinning vinyl record. Etta James (1960) “At last!”
Next up for #5debutalbums50s60s. Picked this up for one of the previous #5albums polls. An absolute killer. #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
I think part of the reason I'm struggling so much with #5DebutAlbums9094 on the latest #5albums poll from @richards7370.bsky.social is that this was the 5-year period where I had my first job after finishing uni in '90, and I had some money to spend on music. So many memories; so much choice...
I have a feeling the majority of the #5albums voters aren't big fans of Britpop
I have ~100 there at the moment. I need to get busy! I get sidetracked by the #5albums polls these days.
Nice one. The #5albums community is good for getting turned on to stuff, isn’t it? I’ll have to check out that Cardiacs album…
Re: HMHB, if you’re not all over them already, I’d say that Trouble Over Bridgewater and Cammell Laird Social Club are the absolute high-water marks 🤞
PS don’t forget to add the hashtag to your #5albums posts, Ricky, otherwise no one (including Richard Shaw) will see them. Cheers 👍
Crap. I forgot to vote.
From memory:
1. Mogwai
2. Sparks
3. David Byrne
4. Pulp
5. Wet Leg
6. The Beths
7. Steven Wilson
8. Chameleons
#johnsvinyl #5album25
Thanks, Rich. Looking forward to more fun with #5albums in 2026!
I've spent all year on the #5albums polls!?
Hi Rich, my #5albums25 are...
1. Bob Mould - Here We Go Crazy
2. Drink The Sea - II
3. Drink The Sea - I
4. Sprints - All That Is Over
5. Ispini na hEireann - Poxtail Soup
Happy New Year Rich and all the #5albums gang...
A fine list, though a few I'll need to explore. Essex Honey my no 1 and The Clearing no 3.
Can I recommend the #5albums polls run by @richards7370.bsky.social
Lots of chat currently on 2025 and also been enjoying his debut album polls.
Right.. I suppose #5albums polls would be of benefit.
Happy Christmas to you and your family Rich. All the best to everyone in the #5albums universe.
Outer sleeve and spinning vinyl record. Bob Mould “Here we go crazy”
Next up for #5albums25. Bob comes back with a melodic roar (of course)! I’ve been busy with the other #5albums poll and haven’t given this is proper number of listens this year. It’s a contender in any case. #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
#5albums
Didn’t even think about Africa 70 or Osibisa. Only NOW discovering Cymande after seeing so many voting for them. Brilliant.
Isn’t music great 😂
I’m pointing the blame squarely at @richards7370.bsky.social’s #5Albums polls for this 😂
My Apple Music replay stats are ridiculous just under 100,000 minutes and over 3,500 artists and about 2,900 albums in 2025. Grateful that my job allows me to listen music all day everyday and couldn’t have done it without the #5albums crowd that consistently gives me something great to listen to.
Outer sleeve and spinning vinyl record. Eno “Here Come The Warm Jets”
Next up for #5debutalbums7074. I picked this up earlier this year in response to one of the #5albums polls. It’s incredible. Thanks to all of you who recommended it! #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
Outer sleeve and spinning vinyl record. Herbie Hancock “Maiden Voyage”
Lovely music to accompany dinner tonight. Picked it up used for a good price this afternoon. Nice recent EU repress. Been on my want list for a few months after re-listening to my CD for a #5albums poll. #johnsvinyl #nowplaying
