Days after approving Woodside’s gas expansion, the Govt released its Climate Risk Assessment. It confirms escalating threats to homes, health & economy. The upcoming 2035 target must be bold — a 75% cut by 2035 is the baseline. Anything less betrays science & our Paris commitments.

Australia’s first national climate risk report exposes rising threats to our health, homes and economy, but ignores the root cause: coal, oil and gas.

No room for the timid: setting Australia’s 2035 emissions target is a daring tightrope act Can the Albanese government strike the right balance: set a climate policy that’s strong enough to work, but isn’t branded reckless?

If ever there was a time for courage, ambition & leadership - this is it.
Our kids face a world of uncertainty & insecurity if we don’t act strongly.
We know the answers.
We need a strong 2035 target to drive action & new opportunities for prosperity.

While others in Parliament tried to wind back Net Zero, I introduced a plan to protect communities from climate risk—with mandatory 5-year assessments and a national adaptation strategy. Disasters cost us $38B a year. Denial won’t help—preparedness will.

Australia’s 2035 emissions target will shape our future. A commitment of at least 75% by 2035 is what science demands to limit warming to 1.5°C—and it’s smart economic policy. Strong action cuts disaster costs, protects homes, drives clean industry investment and keeps Australia competitive.

As the govt prepares to set Australia’s 2035 climate target, ambition must be matched by integrity. Real climate action means cutting emissions at the source, ending fossil fuel expansion, and delivering transparent, accountable reduction pathways across every sector.

Today in QT I asked the govt: will you be ambitious on climate?

The ICJ has affirmed nations have a legal duty to prevent climate harm. Yet this govt continues to approve gas projects to 2070— completely undermining our climate commitments.

The Federal Court says no duty of care to protect Torres Strait Islanders from climate change—but the International Court of Justice says otherwise. Australia must take responsibility and stop subsidising fossil fuels. We owe future generations a safe, healthy future.

The ICJ has delivered a historic opinion: countries have a legal duty to act on climate change. Governments can no longer hide behind big polluters. For Australia, it’s time to end fossil fuel expansion and show integrity in our climate commitments.

Also should be more countries trying for a better shot at climate change.
Humans are so intelligent but oh so damned stupid.

The algal bloom off South Australia’s coast is a devastating consequence of climate change.

We need stronger emissions targets, real investment in environmental science, and leadership that matches the urgency of this crisis.

The east coast gas review is a chance to improve transparency — but expanding gas isn’t the answer. With most of our gas exported and methane pollution rising, we must focus on electrifying homes if we want to lower electricity bills and meet emissions reduction targets.

Net zero targets aren't just numbers—they're limits to keep communities safe. While the Libs & Nats continue to stall, we must cut emissions & shift to clean, cheap renewables to avoid worsening climate impacts.

Accelerating to net zero is vital—but ignoring rising climate risks is reckless. We need action now. My plan tackles skyrocketing insurance costs and boosts resilience for households, businesses and communities.

Ted O’Brien refused to commit to the Paris Agreement — the world’s plan to tackle climate change.

Walking away would wreck our international standing, kill clean energy investment and be a disaster for climate action.

We must commit to #75by35 and invest in resilience to keep communities safe.

The Coalition’s nuclear plan doesn’t stack up.

90% of their proposed reactor sites don’t have enough water to operate safely — needing 200GL a year (that’s 80,000 Olympic pools!).

In a drying climate, it’s reckless. Renewables are the smart solution.

The new face of climate denial is delay.
Decades of delay have made us more vulnerable to climate disasters and the Coalition’s nuclear plan is yet another distraction. I’ll keep pushing for real climate action.

Australia has a unique opportunity to lead in clean energy and attract global investment. A strong 2035 emissions target will drive innovation, lower power prices, and secure our future. The govt must commit to #75by35

"Every fraction of a degree that we can limit warming matters".
So, explain this one Zali. What's going on? Does that include export emissions, such as by Chevron?

Easy to do if the Teals push for loans for the 4 million+ households with solar to install a battery Zali. The high price of fossil fuel grid power (mine is 35c/kWh vs. 5c for exported solar) and ALP's refusal to invest in 'community batteries' to store excess solar makes it a no-brainer. #75by35

🚨 2024 was the hottest year on record, exceeding 1.5°C of heating. Every fraction of a degree that we can limit warming matters. 🌏 I'm calling for a 75% emissions reduction by 2035. We must act now to decarbonize & build climate-resilient communities #75by35 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Australia has set a target to reduce emissions by 43% by 2030, but we need to plan ahead. A new 2035 national target will soon be set, and I’m advocating for a reduction of at least 75% by 2035.

Fully electrified homes and vehicles promise significant savings and a cleaner future – but this requires strong government leadership, urgent action on renewable energy projects, and policies that make electrification accessible to everyone, including renters.
