The implication is that though she's sick, she doesn't seem to be. Curley: I don't get it, you don't seem sick! What's the issue? Panel 3 - A closeup of Nellie holding onto the paper, explaining to Curley why she's in bed Nellie: I know I'm not, but the Smiths are nixing hard-earned cash from me - and I'm not getting out of my bed 'til they pay up! Panel 4 - Curley hops onto Nellie's bed, causing her to flinch. He reveals that he's also been skimped out on money - and the implication is that he's just found out. Curley: Move over then - if they're skimping, they owe me DOUBLE!

She and Curley (who is offscreen) are having a conversation surrounding it, though it's clear Curley is not really paying much attention. Nellie: I need a fair bit of help here, Curley. Do you think you can handle the English language? Curley: Of course - My knowledge of it happens to be one of my greatest assets! Panel 2 - The aftermath. Curley lies dazed on the ground with a comically thick English dictionary having been hurled straight to his face, leaving a noticeable dent in his head.
