Literacy bill compromise gains support of a former foe and passes first hurdle Assembly Bill 1454's initial test was easy: no opposition and a unanimous vote of support for foundational reading skills statewide in the early grades.

It is a compromise, but still good news for California's children.
There are lots of hurdles yet to come, but again, a good first step!
