A Total Fire Ban has been declared in the ACT for Sunday 25 January due to an Extreme Fire Danger Rating.

This means there must be no fires in the open, and all fire permits are suspended for the day. High-risk activities like welding, grinding and gas cutting must not be carried out, and slashers and harvesting machinery can’t be used in rural areas.

You can still use a gas or electric BBQ at home if it’s under constant adult supervision, there’s a clear 3-metre space around it, and you have water or a fire extinguisher ready. In parks and reserves, electric BBQs will remain available but gas BBQs will be turned off.

These are very dangerous conditions. Fires can start quickly and spread very fast. Please check your bushfire survival plan, make sure your property is ready, and reconsider travel through bushfire-prone areas. If a fire starts, act early and move to safety if needed.

Thank you to all of our emergency services staff and volunteers who have been preparing diligently for conditions like these. We are grateful for your dedication and for stepping up to protect our community.

Please keep an eye on ACT Emergency Services Agency channels for updates and further advice, and take care of yourselves and each other.
