I wonder if the artist was connected by marriage to James Nasmyth, a colleague of Dr John Hope's, who gifted #Nasmyth w the copy of #ACuriousHerbal that now is found in the library of Edinburgh's #RoyalBotanicalGarden.

It's not as venerable, nor as mysteriously bound. But, for me, of great interest is Newcastle's copy of #ACuriousHerbal, 18thC by #ElizabethBlackwell.

According to #ACuriousHerbal, these little blooms belong to a plant called Mouse Ears. I'm over the moon to see them thriving on neglect in the front garden. #ElizabethBlackwell #botany #herbal
