Like all true sanctuaries, the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary doesn't permit breeding, but 2 donkeys rescued from an abandoned holiday lodge in 2023 turned out to be pregnant. Nugget (m) + Eeyore (f) were born in Dec 2023 + Feb 2024 – but that wasn’t the biggest surprise.

Other good news: Italy’s national airline ITA Airways banned transport of hunting trophies in passenger baggage + cargo; Canada banned elephant tusk + rhino horn hunting trophies; London-based Wattoo Safaris, which offered hunting holidays in Africa, closed down.

Belgium’s parliament voted to ban the import of hunting trophies from many protected species including African lions, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, elephants, Southern white rhinos, and many others.
