Had the pleasure of connecting with members of the APISBMA ahead of #AEC2025. Such an inspiring community of education leaders doing big things for students everywhere.
A gorgeous venue, friendly people, a sense of hope and empowerment for the future of autism and neurodiversity research and real life impact
I will be thinking of #AEC2025 for a long time to come
Highlighting truly the accessibility for some, is accessibility for all

Street art on utility box – A painted utility box shows two pigeons facing each other with a red heart between their beaks. Above them is a yellow sun marked with the Roman numeral VI, radiating colorful beams. The words “THE LOVERS” appear at the bottom.
A row of Georgian brick townhouses with tall windows and arched red doors. The buildings are lined with black railings, and the sky above is bright blue with scattered clouds.
A white tiled wall with black calligraphy text under a chandelier. The quote reads: “Dress suitably in short skirts & strong boots, leave your jewels in the bank & buy a revolver” – Countess Markievicz, addressing female rebels, 1916.
A shelf of whiskey bottles in a bar, with price tags in euros. Three bottles of “Writers’ Tears” Irish whiskey are labeled “Copper Pot,” “Red Head,” and “Cask Strength.” To the right are bottles of Bushmills single malt.

messaging to the CYP over time = your natural (incl harmless) differences from a notional ‘normal’ are wrong/deficient. This contributes to autistic CYP’s ‘emotional burden’ and is likely implicated in school distress, exclusion, lack of belonging etc. Just today, Liz Pellicano, at #AEC2025, calls
‘The alternative to independence is inter-dependence.’

A large conference hall with many seated attendees facing a stage at the Autism-Europe event. A woman is standing at a podium delivering a presentation, with her image also projected onto a large screen on the left. On the right side of the stage, a slide is displayed titled ‘A good Autistic life,’ featuring text and photos of several people. The background is lit with purple and green stage lighting.

It was great seeing so much research about trans autistic experiences at #AutismEurope2025 today! Some call being trans x autistic 'living under a double rainbow'. This picture of an actual double rainbow was posted today by someone in my local trans group in the UK! Shared with permission #AEC2025
There’s a free #AECongress2025 / #AEC2025 barbecue ticket that I put at a high table near the codex booth for anyone interested in going. I had a colleague who had to leave early for a family emergency and I don’t know who to give it to. Someone use it!
