Based partly on @RealGilbert’s mic drop intro to @kaylai’s #agu21 talk, I propose a new science dissemination format: David Attenborough (or reasonable hand-drawn facsimile) narrates papers. If we’re paying thousands of dollars to publish these, may as well make them sound nice.
As for the #AGU21 format: I loved the 5 minutes live short talks - and have a list of recorded presentations to watch 🧐. The Q&A system was neat and lead to some amazing conversations! Really looking forward to more of this - safety and state of the world permitting.
With #AGU21 coming to a close, I must say: there’s nothing like sharing our passion and enthusiasm for our research in person. I felt so energized meeting old friends, seeing some in person for the first time, and meeting new people! I really feel like we’re a great community 🙌

The mix of #AGU21 session conveners sticking to the 5 minute talks vs letting people basically still give 10-15 minute talks and ignoring the discussions sections make overlapping sessions even more untenable than usual.

In a nutshell, I look at how glacier retreat influences the storage and routing of water in the Peyto catchment. My CRHM model suggests that as glaciers disappear, infiltration increases: so + subsurface storage and flow, - overland runoff. And ponds act as dynamic storage #AGU21

I am presenting poster A15H-1757 at #AGU21 on Monday at 4pm in the Poster Hall: Can climate models simulate unprecedented extremes like the 2021 Western North American heat wave? We try to answer the question using CESM and E3SM climate models. The answer is “Close, but no cigar”
