AI Burnout Costing UK Firms £29 Billion A Year Faced with a deluge of untrusted AI outputs, employees feel forced to double check every answer, leading to signs of severe mental strain.

UK workers spend almost as long double-checking AI’s outputs as using it, according to new research from UnlikelyAI, a level of mistrust that could be costing enterprise firms £29 billion a year in lost productivity.

A recent workplace survey by YiMagazine reveals a paradox in China’s AI adoption: productivity gains are real, but workers aren’t benefiting. Instead of relief, employees report a faster pace, higher expectations, and growing anxiety that the skills they spent years building may no longer be enough.

The numbers show who captures these gains. Nearly 30% of respondents say their companies have taken on more business with the same headcount, while 23.4% report higher response-time demands. Meanwhile, 38.44% say output standards have risen so much that the line between “done” and “excellent” has effectively disappeared, increasing pressure rather than reducing it.

Yet in China large-scale layoffs remain rare, with over half reporting no meaningful change in headcount. The bigger concern is adaptation. Only 18.94% cite direct replacement as their main fear. Instead, 59.05% say the real challenge is having to relearn how to do their jobs, while 41.78% worry that years of accumulated expertise are losing value.

Outsider’s comment:

Following recent research by Boston Consulting Group, the idea of “AI brain fry” has gained traction on the Chinese internet this week, with this article offering proprietary data to support the trend.

AI agents are pushing everyone into managerial roles faster than people can adapt.

I started my job writing firmware for microcontrollers. 2 years later, I'm baby sitting AI agents and doing locode "workflows". At least I still do some PCB layout and hardware, but the AI is coming for that too.

2026 Prediction #1: The AI Slop Era

2026 = more “smart” AI, more dumb content.
Vendors will promise magic. Most of us will get a “Generate Campaign” button that spits out shame.

Welcome to the Slop Flood.

AI just told me my meltdown was ‘a pattern of expressive resilience.’ So now my therapist is a robot with denial issues.
