#AOS24 is a wrap! I had a wonderful time in Estes Park. It was so nice to see so many cool people and hear some awesome talks. Plus, the wildlife spotting was amazing!
An absurd proportion of people in the Denver airport today have been wearing bird-themed clothing and I can only assume every one of them is an ornithologist returning home from #AOS24
*waves hi to fellow bird brains*
I’m still processing how amazing #AOS24 was. So many great talks and posters, so many wonderful conversations, so many lovely people, so much incredible science. Thanks everyone for a fantastic meeting!!
#AOS24 was such an amazing (and exhausting) conference, but all good things must come to an end. Lots of amazing science on display (and lots of great first-meetings with people I’ve known online for YEARS), and I finally found time today to schlep up the Rockies to see the White-tailed Ptarmigans!
In line for TSA in Denver and saw students wearing #AOS24 t-shirts. Wanted to shout ORNITHOLOGISTS UNITE to them across the TSA line, but thought better of it. Love seeing others out and about in their #AOS24 swag.
Had a great time at #AOS24 and finally got to meet @cenemes.bsky.social in person! I hear that BlueSky has finally become the new Twitter, so I'm looking forward to spamming everyone's timelines with stats on two websites now!
A woman stands at a lectern presenting research on birds. A Hermit Warbler photo by Julio Mulero is edited in to look like it's oversized and perching on the screen.
And the final IBPer at #AOS24 (unless we find more of you this evening) IBP biologist Lee Bryant presented our latest analyses on the bird population monitoring we do for NPS in Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. 🪶🌎🧪
A woman stands at a lectern giving a presentation. A Western Meadowlark photo (by Dan Streiffert) is edited in so it looks like the bird is sitting in the audience. Text on the photo says Dr. Nicole Michel, Director of Quantitative Science at the National Audubon Society.
More IBPers at #AOS24 ! Former IBP biologist Dr. Nicole Michel is now the Director of Quantitative Science for the National Audubon Society! She presented research on the Audubon Conservation Ranching program. 🪶🌎🧪
Photo of a man standing in front of a stone fireplace. There is a photo of a Black-backed Woodpecker by Aaron Maizlish edited in to look like it is perched on the man's arm. Text on the image says Dr. Andrew Stillman post-doc at Cornell Lab of Ornithology
More IBPers at #AOS24 ! Dr. Andrew Stillman worked with IBP on some of his dissertation research on fire and Black-backed Woodpeckers. He's now a post-doc at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology working with eBird data. 🪶🌎🧪
These hardworking volunteers deserve a HUGE thank you for their tireless work planning the amazing experience we've had this year at #AOS24 in Estes Park, Colorado. It was truly a Summit for the Birds! Thanks to Pat, Lauryn, Emily, and Jen for all your work!
YOU are why we do this! Thanks to the 1,093 (!!!) registered attendees who gathered together at #AOS24 to celebrate science, birds, conservation, ecology & each other's work & accomplishments! Thanks also to our generous sponsors & many, many volunteers!
Is it really our last day together at #AOS24 in Estes Park? Before you fly off, please join us in a final celebratory gathering in Longhouse Gym, starting at 5:30. Buffet dinner; student presentation awards & a closing social featuring a bird band jam by your musical peers!
We would not all be here together at #AOS24 without the amazing work of these volunteers & professionals! Thank you to the #AOS24 Meeting Coordination Committee for a memorable scientific conference in a (literally) breathtaking location!

I’ve had some serious FOMO not being in Estes Park for #AOS24 this week
