Thee panel plot, showing solar eclipse images from the Proba-3 ASPIICS instrument at various stages of processing. They all use a blue-green-yellow color scale. The fist panel shows the blocked out sun as a yellow ring with fine wispy structures pointing away from it (the corona/solar wind). There are a lot of thin vertical lines from uncorrected bias. The central panel shows the same image, but those lines are all gone, improving the contrast of the real details significantly. The right panel shows just the lines that were corrected out with minimal features from the sun's corona being picked up.
It's day 12 or so of programming a filter to reduce the banding noise in the Proba-3 #ASPIICS images.
The ASPIICS images are amazing, but plagued by a lot of uncorrected bias and FPN noise. Designing the algorithm to be robust against picking up coronal features was a challenge. #heliophysics
