In conquest, victory. In ruin, apathy. In nothing, trust. It's not that he forgets the grime smeared over his palms, his face. How his chains chitter and bleat with the voices of the dead. He doesn't care because he is not made to care, and when his master lays out a dog's bowl labelled No. 35 filled to the brim with fresh water, he goes to his knees without thinking.
