I have been stewing on this since Wednesday, and have now done a total 180 on the first prison visit when Blyth's childishness so creeped me out. I also think Huxley's Monte Cristo metaphor connects to that scene and the pair redefined as moral centers. Must rewatch!

But by ending on the doctor's call, the film may be skirting the required punishment for Charles Boyer's adultery.
We're left to construct our own resolution, which will likely be happier than the Code's!
