Isn’t it interesting how a simple action like cutting overgrown hedges back can mean the difference between a good day and a bad day for a blind or partially sighted person?

Small changes like this result in the pavement becoming accessible for more people 🙌

Footpaths in parts of Newbridge are so narrow a lighting column can block a buggy or wheelchair.
That’s not acceptable.
Next week I’m bringing a motion to pilot wall mounted or solar lighting so footpaths work for everyone.

An example of a clear multi-use pathway thanks to wheel/curb stops on Dallas Road in Victoria, BC (near Ross Bay Seawall) placed between the sidewalk and the tires of parked vehicles.
An example of a clear bike lane thanks to bollards on Dallas Road in Victoria, BC (near Ogden Point) placed at the front of each parking space.
A reminder of what can happen if wheel/curb stops are missing from a parking space. As a result, half of the sidewalk is blocked by the overhanging vehicle bumper.
Two examples of good design and one example of bad design: Wheel/curb stops and bollards help prevent vehicle overhang and keep pathways safe and clear. The last photo shows what happens when they’re missing. #SafeStreets #bikesky #yyjbike #victoriabc #AccessibleStreets

After more than 5 years of waiting, the Government’s response on pavement parking falls short. Local discretion is not enough and won’t keep blind and partially sighted people safe. We will continue campaigning for a national ban.

Beyond disappointed that the government has gone against what the majority of respondents supported in the consultation
With subjective wording and leaving enforcement up to local authorities will not solve the problem
