i talk a lot about adoption’s severance of the parent-child relationship, but of course #adoptees are legally severed (estranged, anonymized) from their *entire* family, including their siblings. (I have two half-brothers I have yet to meet and possibly never will).

"The State Department does not track how many international #adoptees become naturalized citizens. But, an immigration lawyer scoured records and found that a total of about 200,000 children brought to the U.S. since that year had grown up without U.S. citizenship" www.nytimes.com/2026/03/23/u...
#Adoptees should have the legal right to access their original birth certificates and annul their adoptions. Both violate a person's inherent human right to know and preserve their own identities.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

#adoptees! This is going to be GREAT.
I'm over here scratching my head thinking the same thing. We #adoptees use this same language every day to explain why denying us access to our origins is harmful yet most of y'all tell us to sit down and be grateful.
Lying about biology is always wrong no matter the context.
This was a wild read. All the arguments made in support of the law are the same ones we #adoptees talk about when discussing our inherent right to know our families of origin. Think about all the pushback we get for wanting to have unfettered access to our original birth certificates!
Hey #adoptees. You'll find some familiar language in this article. The author cites evidence that was used to support the argument that denying a person's access to their familial origins is harmful. That evidence was used to push this bill forward in SD. It was quite stunning to read 🥚

There is no "right" to buy someone else's stolen child. There's not even a "right" to have your own biological child. Those are *wants*.
I was glad to see some national coverage of this important but unfamiliar issue. #adopteesonadoption #adoptees Born Abroad and Fearful of ICE, Adoptees Try to Prove They Belong - The New York Times […]
for those who don’t know, adoption of children and adoption of pets tend to be described in identical language: “forever home,” “gotcha day,” “rehoming,” etc.
it is taboo for #adoptees to act against our socially prescribed roles as a rescue objects, forever morally beholden to our saviors.
So he was legally adopted by his step-father in 1990, which means his original birth certifcate was sealed and one with his new name was issued by the state. Happens to all #adoptees. His 2nd name change to Vance wouldn't have altered his reissued birth certificate however. 🥚
To my knowledge, in no state do adoptees’ amended birth certificates bear any official designation of having been amended. This is one crucial reason why late-discovery #adoptees exist.
And if they can deny #women due to marital changes in last name, what will they to #adoptees who cannot access their own birth certificates, before name change took place (because we have no human rights).
Will he also deny our right to vote?
I really like Heather Cox Richardson, and her summary of the threats of the SAVE America Act is like nearly everyone's on the left--blind when it comes to acknowledging the threats of this mass voter suppression effort to millions of #Adoptees. We never count--still!

I’m proud of the work #adoptees and birthparents have done over generations to create a systematic critique of our culture’s addiction to adoption & its dependence on a horrifically predatory adoption industry. I praise ther willingness to speak truth, knowing they will earn endless abuse for it. +

if you don’t like the idea that #adoptees are treated as other people’s property—despite there being a $34 billion market in children—then maybe we can agree that adoptees’ legal identities are other people’s property. “I want a child to call my own.” OK, here’s a piece of paper that proves it

my fellow cis people should shut up and understand the gravity of the situation. adopted people have *also* known for generations that the state will decree whatever it wishes about a person’s identity. Intercountry #adoptees know that caprices with paperwork can lead to seizure and disappearance.
yes I do hope that the ACLU does right by trans people and their control over their own identifying documents, because they sure as fuck don’t stand up for #adoptees in OUR fight.
Martin Short’s adopted daughter died by suicide. I don’t know how familiar people are with the prevalence of suicide and suicidality among #adoptees. One frequently cited study concluded that adopted people are four times as likely to attempt suicide as non-adoptees.

Any adoptee here with knowledge of adoption practices and the adoption industry in Poland? I've got someone who's skeptical that plenary adoption in Poland is a predatory industry as it is in the US.
