"Beautiful World" A KazuScara Threadfic by Aerynn
“You never sleep.” The Wanderer turns his head to find his travel companion already walking toward him, settling by the campfire. Scoffing, he raises an eyebrow. “I’ve already told you, I don’t need to. Go back to sleep, Kaedehara.” “I can’t, in good conscience, let you keep watch all night while I sleep, Wanderer.” “Well, you should. I literally don’t need sleep, and we’ve still got a long way to go tomorrow if you want to head deeper into the forest.” “Shall I keep you company a little longer, then?” Sighing, the Wanderer relents. “Do what you want.” ~*~
“Why aren’t you sleeping, Kazuha?” With a soft smile, Kazuha chooses to settle beside his companion. It takes some time, but eventually, the man hiding behind the name "Wanderer" finally shares his real name with him. “The night is exceptionally beautiful, Kuni,” Kazuha replies, sitting by the campfire in front of their tent. “It would be a shame to miss the stars.” Kuni rolls his eyes, though there’s a hint of a smile when he says, “You and your poetic nonsense.” “So you thought it was poetic?” Kazuha asks, to which Kuni simply snorts. “May I accompany you while stargazing tonight, then? I can keep you entertained with a few star-themed haiku.”
“For one, I’m on night watch, not stargazing,” Kuni begins, though he doesn’t pull away when Kazuha presses closer. “And two, you should be sleeping.” “Then, will you allow me to sleep here?” Kuni looks at him, incredulous, but he knows that familiar gleam of stubbornness in those maple-colored eyes. So, he shakes his head, wraps an arm around Kazuha, and tugs him down until Kazuha’s head is resting on his lap. “Here,” Kuni says, a hint of red spreading across his porcelain cheeks. “Happy?” The corners of Kazuha’s lips stretch so wide it almost hurts. “Very,” he says. And so, Kazuha lies there, reaching up to touch Kuni’s cheek as he waxes poetic about the beautiful face illuminated by the pale blue light of the stars and the warm glow of the campfire. —fin.
