Now it's Fernanda Garcia's turn! She is a PhD student at @paleogenomics.bsky.social's lab @liigh-unam.bsky.social, and she's telling us about the #Afromexico genomics project #LIIGHColloquium2025
Today was a difficult day as I learned some study participants had passed away. Families were grateful we came back with results and we remembered them fondly while looking at their pics and ancestry profiles #afromexico
Great summary of research carried out by great colleagues @morestrada @JavierMenRev @jcchacond ! Also happy to see reports of our work on #Afromexico at @LIIGH_UNAM
Day 5: Not many pics from this day. But we learned that an Afromexican leader (Sergio Peñaloza) is running to be an independent candidate for the Mexican presidency! #afromexico
Day4: The #afromexico project also involved sampling an indigenous (Chatino) community from Costa Chica. They were very grateful to see us come back with their results. Not only did @srama23 take great pics, she was also great at explaining results!
Day 2: Diverse reactions to ancestry results. Participants get a picture of their ancestry (local ancestry karyogram plot) & a photo of themselves-“both are you”-we say to them. All pics by @srama23 #afromexico
Day 1 at Costa Chica w/ @srama23 returning ancestry results to participants of the #Afromexico genomics project :) Thanks Shreya for the cool pics!!
Update on #afromexico genomics project: Most African mt haplogroups r found in Veracruz. Thanks to @mariajospalma
