Did you know that Los Angeles International Airport was built over a thriving black neighborhood in the nineteen twenties ? The little Harlem of the West existed where L. A. X. Stands Today. Black families lived peacefully, owned homes and ran businesses in Westchester. But in the nineteen forties city officials decided to build an airport using Eminem domain to force residents out. Homes were bulldozed and many families were paid far less than their property was worth. Today, there's no marker or memorial for the community that once thrived there. Next time you fly from L. A. X, remember the history buried beneath the runway. Share, believe, inspire blacks, be.
