Most of what they knew of Fray came second-hand from Sid and Rielle's account. Still faintly present within their being, but past the early, nebulous shade before Esteem fully developed, they never assumed his form directly.

The soul crystal they took was Fray's, but most of the 30-50 DRK questline instead took place during their StB story, where Esteem assumed a more fluid form based on their past. They wouldn't actually train as a DRK until meeting Sidurgu, after already accepting their inner darkness.

I wear the they/them on the sleeve, but via glamours and outfits they weave for themself, they do frequently change their visual presentation on a varying scale between masculine and feminine, leaning most commonly on a 'princely' look or longer hair paired with dresses/skirts.

This is the funniest inspiration for it, but I've been watching Star Trek TNG with a friend, and Worf/Deanna's relationship as co-parents for Alexander spurred how I think of Thancred/Alica. Platonic parents is something I really enjoy but don't see that much; just pure familial love.

Or in FGC terms, an install archetype versus a puppet character. 'Reaper' mode combat-wise is a lot more of them using Esteem as an outward extension (such as Blood Stalk, but Esteem instead of a voidsent) and emphasizing their spellcasting more than DRK, but a bit less than RDM still.
