A photo of the cover of Alice Zeniter's novel, 'The Art of Losing'. The photo is of a street in a French, or perhaps Algerian city in the 1950s. A man looks out from his balcony directly above a café. Down the street to his right there are people walking and parked cars including my personal favourite a 2CV. Superimposed on the photo is the title of the book on large white lettering and below that, the authors in large yellow letters. Interestingly, for me at least, the cover photo is by Raymond Depardon who took a famous series of amazing photos of a Glasgow most of us here are glad to see the back of.
Reading this.
I'm probably late again to the party but it's terrific. Historically interesting, morally complex, it explores identity, belonging and the deep roots of colonialism.
Mainly though, it's just a beautifully written and engaging story. I couldn't recommend it enough. #alicezeniter
