Amazon FSx for Lustre adds new storage class that delivers the lowest-cost and only fully elastic Lustre file storage Amazon FSx for Lustre launches the Intelligent-Tiering storage class, which delivers virtually unlimited scalability, the only fully elastic Lustre storage, and the lowest-cost Lustre file storage in the cloud. FSx for Lustre is a fully managed storage service that delivers terabytes per second of throughput, millions of IOPS, and the fastest storage performance for GPU instances in the cloud. The FSx Intelligent-Tiering storage class is optimized for HDD-based or mixed HDD/SSD workloads that have a mix of hot and cold data and don’t require consistent SSD-level performance. For these workloads, the FSx for Lustre Intelligent-Tiering storage class delivers up to 34% better price-performance compared to on-premises HDD file storage and up to 70% better price-performance compared to other cloud-based Lustre storage.  FSx for Lustre Intelligent-Tiering delivers high performance whether you're starting with gigabytes of experimental data or managing massive petabyte-scale datasets for your most demanding HPC and AI workloads. The Intelligent-Tiering storage class helps you lower costs by automatically scaling your file storage up or down based on your access patterns. This new storage class eliminates expensive overprovisioning and storage management by only charging for the data you store, with automatic tiering between Frequent Access, Infrequent Access, and Archive tiers. For your latency-sensitive workloads, an optional SSD read cache delivers SSD-level performance at HDD pricing. The FSx for Lustre Intelligent-Tiering storage class is optimized to deliver the lowest cost and simplest storage management for compute-intensive workloads like weather forecasting, seismic imaging, genomic analysis, and ADAS training. To learn more about the AWS Regions where the FSx Intelligent-Tiering storage class is available, see https://docs.aws.amazon.com/fsx/latest/LustreGuide/using-fsx-lustre.html#persistent-deployment-regions. AWS Backup adds logically air-gapped vault support for Amazon FSx Today, we are announcing the availability of AWS Backup logically air-gapped vault support for Amazon FSx for Lustre, Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, and Amazon FSx for OpenZFS. Logically air-gapped vault is a type of AWS Backup vault that allows secure sharing of backups across accounts and organizations, supporting direct restore to reduce recovery time from a data loss event. A logically air-gapped vault stores immutable backup copies that are locked by default, and isolated with encryption using AWS owned keys. You can now protect your Amazon FSx file system in logically air-gapped vaults in either the same account or across other accounts and Regions. This helps reduce the risk of downtime, ensure business continuity, and meet compliance and disaster recovery requirements. You can get started using the https://console.aws.amazon.com/backup/home, API, or CLI. Target Amazon FSx backups to a logically air-gapped vault by specifying it as a copy destination in your backup plan. Share the vault for recovery or restore testing with other accounts using https://aws.amazon.com/ram/ (RAM). Once shared, you can initiate direct restore jobs from that account, eliminating the overhead of copying backups first. AWS Backup support for the three Amazon FSx file systems is available in all the Regions where logically air-gapped vault and respective Amazon FSx file systems are supported. For more information, visit the AWS Backup https://aws.amazon.com/backup/faqs/, and https://docs.aws.amazon.com/aws-backup/latest/devguide/logicallyairgappedvault.html.

Amazon FSx for Lustre now supports Elastic Fabric Adapter and NVIDIA GPUDirect Storage https://aws.amazon.com/fsx/lustre/, a service that provides high-performance, cost-effective, and scalable file storage for compute workloads, now supports Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) and NVIDIA GPUDirect Storage (GDS). With this launch, Amazon FSx for Lustre now provides the fastest storage performance for GPU instances in the cloud, delivering up to 12x higher throughput per client instance (1200 Gbps) compared to previous FSx for Lustre systems, so you can complete machine learning training jobs faster and reduce workload costs. https://aws.amazon.com/hpc/efa/ improves workload performance by using the AWS Scalable Reliable Datagram (SRD) protocol to increase network throughput utilization and by bypassing the operating system during data transfer. For applications powered by high-performance computing instances such as Trn1 and Hpc7a, you can use EFA to achieve higher throughput per client instance. GDS support builds on EFA to further enhance performance by enabling direct data transfer between the file system and the GPU memory. This direct path eliminates memory copies and CPU involvement in data transfer operations. With the combination of EFA and GDS support, applications using P5 GPU instances and NVIDIA Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) can achieve up to 12x higher throughput (up to 1200 Gbps) per client instance. EFA and GDS support is available at no additional cost on new FSx for Lustre Persistent-2 file systems in all commercial https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/ where Persistent-2 file systems are available. For more information about this new feature, see the Amazon FSx for Lustre https://docs.aws.amazon.com/fsx/latest/LustreGuide/what-is.html and the AWS News Blog, https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/amazon-fsx-for-lustre-unlocks-full-network-bandwidth-and-gpu-performance/.
