An American dagger moth caterpillar in the grass. The head of the caterpillar is black, but the rest of it is yellow, except for a few black spikes sticking out from its body. They are longer than the other setae (hair-like bristles), which also stick out and give a hairy appearance. The blades of grass surrounding the caterpillar are about as long as the insect itself.
