A medium-sized pinkish orange butterfly with black markings is perched on the some small, nodding pink flowers. The underside of the butterfly has a complex pattern of olive, black and white, with two large blue eye spots. The plant that the butterfly is nectaring on is Spreading Dogbane, a wildflower that sports clusters of fragrant, bell-shaped pink flowers from mid-June to mid-August.
