On #ThisDayInHistory in 1961, the #USSR detonated #TsarBomba, the most powerful nuclear device ever. Physicist #AndreiSakharov oversaw design of AN602, using principles that could yield far stronger. The explosion was ~50 Mt but could have been 100 if the uranium tamper was used.
