She wears a v-neck gown in subtle shades of white, green and yellow with a gold sash, and a light blue cloak, one end of which is draped over her left shoulder. She holds the other end of the cloak in her right hand. Her left elbow is bent so that her left forearm rests on a cloth-covered pedestal. Her hair is piled high on her head with a pale blue ribbon at the top.

Etching and aquatint in brown on buff laid paper depicting a woman seated by a table, resting her left cheek on her hands, which sit on top of a large closed book which she holds up vertically at a slight slant.
