Kingsolver’s widely read books formed a literary landscape from the 1990s to the present day. It’s a place readers know they’ll find eloquent descriptions of the things they value: like ethical com- passion, empathetic perspectives, and paths toward something that feels like home. Several literary committees have praised Kingsolver’s writing. In 2000, The Poisonwood Bible received the Indies Choice Book Award for Adult Fiction. Her mixture of memoir and journalism, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle earned the 2008 James Beard Award for Literary Writing. And in 2023, Kingsolver’s novel Demon Copperhead was recognized with the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
