This digital mixed-media piece by Ann Tracy, titled
"Bald Head Cliffs and Sky," captures a moody, atmospheric coastal scene in Maine. The composition is divided into three horizontal bands: a vast, textured sky; a turbulent sea; and a dark, rocky foreground.
The Sky (Top Half)
The upper half of the image is dominated by a heavy, overcast sky filled with hazy washes of color. It is not a clear blue but a blend of muted lavender, dusty rose, and slate grey. The texture is grainy and layered, resembling an aged photograph or a weathered fresco. In the upper left corner, two small, dark silhouettes of birds—possibly gulls or crows—are frozen in flight, providing a sense of scale and movement against the stillness of the clouds.
The Sea (Middle Section)
Below the sky, the ocean is a deep, inky indigo. White, frothy waves crash against the shore, creating jagged lines of bright foam that contrast sharply with the dark water. A faint, glowing horizontal line of light—perhaps a distant sunrise or sunset—separates the water from the sky at the horizon, casting a subtle, warm reflection on the surface of the waves.
The Shoreline (Bottom Section)
The bottom of the frame is filled with dark, jagged rocks and tide pools. The rocks are nearly black, with hints of deep blue reflecting the sea. In the very bottom right corner, there is a small, man-made element: a wooden staircase or railing that leads down toward the water. This detail suggests a human connection to the wild, rugged landscape, hinting at a coastal path or overlook.
Overall Mood
The piece feels contemplative and slightly melancholic. The use of digital "distressing"—visible cracks and scratches on the surface—gives the artwork a vintage, timeless quality, as if it were a memory of the Maine coast rather than a direct photograph.

The image is a striking and layered artistic composition, blending a map of Los Angeles with the silhouette of a winged figure and abstract textures.

Central Figure: A prominent, dark silhouette of a person with large, ethereal wings stands in the mid-ground, appearing as if emerging from or interacting with the map itself.
Background Map: Beneath and around the figure is a vintage or antique-style map of Los Angeles, with clearly visible place names such as "Koreatown," "Dodger Stadium," "Echo Park," "Wilshire Country Club," and "VERMONT AVE." The map features topographical details and street grids.
Color Palette and Texture: The overall image has a rich and somewhat distressed aesthetic. Overlaid on the map and figure are washes of color, primarily in vibrant reds, oranges, yellows, and blues, creating a painterly or mixed-media effect. These textures give the image a sense of age and depth.
Overall Impression: The composition evokes a sense of urban exploration, history, or perhaps a symbolic journey through the city, with the winged figure adding a mythical or spiritual dimension to the familiar urban landscape.
