Hong Kong harbor in a golden sunset, reflected on the see. Small inhabited traditional boats
Please Hong Kong, you offered your magic yesterday but let me say good bye properly today and tomorrow. Dial back the lack of internet and the storm.

A lazy Sunday with rest, yoga, reading, rugby watching, some shopping (less than 2 weeks left in #AnotherNoonGunCity)
Foggy landscape with hills and forest. In front, waste. At the back on the hill a huge white statue of Buddha
Close up on the white Buddha statue emerging from the dark green forest. A traditional Chinese building can be seen
In other news, this is where I am today.

Two books: Tapping at glass by Tim Tim Cheng and City at the end of Time by Leung Ping-kwan (that one translated)
This week’s loot, from my favorite bookshop (Hong Kong Reader)

After seeing *yet another* bookshop without a poetry shelf, and a pastel pink Lamborghini, I am feeling very judgmental.

Aujourd'hui il fait tellement humide que les murs de l'escalier intérieur de la fac sont épongés à la serpillère.
De fait, ils dégoulinaient de condensation.

High-rises facing trees
A potted mini tree on a balcony
plant growing on the fence between 2 apartment buildings past their prime
I am fascinated by how plants encroach on this hyper dense city all the time. Any small patch of earth sports a massive tree, ferns take roots on roofs, bushes tumble down the slopes, parks and sitting areas have bursts of vegetation, windows and balconies tiny forests.

A fisherman on his boat selling all kind of live fish and sea food from bright blue basins
3 dragon boats
The finish line of a dragon boat race
A Saturday watching dragon boats races in Sai Kung and eating dim sun

The Chi Lin nunnery, traditional roofs and garden in front of high rise
Blue water lilies close up
Nan Lian: traditional pavilion, stones, tree and flowers
A bonsai from the nunnery - a vividly green pine tree whose trunk almost draws a complete circle
Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian garden were my destinations for yesterday

A Biergarten in Hong Kong with a wooden board on the pavement advertising that they are a "Husband Day Care centre". The board explains that women can drop they husband there, go shopping or relax, come back and pay the bill
A young couple enters a shop that organizes weddings. The name of the shop: Red Wedding.
In the series "Mmmmh, unsure", both photos taken today

Reading Xiaolu Ma’s wonderful book (delightful comparison of the Russian, Japanese and Chinese versions of Pushkin’s Captain’s Daughter) in my favorite spot (the Chinese Garden in Kowloon Park) while behind the tree an old man practices his violin (sound on)

Participant observation in HK Health System.
After an evening at the hospital (nothing serious), the dentist.
Who has a life size Iron Man in the waiting room. With the lights and all.
Is that a good sign?

My dinner at the Thai place next door Baby kale with meat sauce Chicken rice A glass of hot snow pear and apple juice with chunks of fruit A dessert of bright green pandan agar

Add for the best Raclette Cheese in town (the town being Hong Kong, and eating Raclette in this climate is beyond even this girl from Savoie) and all you can eat Raclette Dinners
The climate sends me towards iced smoothies, but it's always good to know that basics are covered.

The weird experience (for me) of your glasses fogging up when you step *outside*.

My plate - fried rice chickpeas and slaw- and coffee cup. The background is the DEA and Hong Kong island
Dedicated to @nholzschuch.bsky.social because we generally do this together: lunch at the HK Museum of Arts café.
Location, location, location

On a terrace over a HK alleyway. Cup of rose and hibiscus tea, matcha cranberry scone and a book, Dear HK by Xu Xi
Some of life’s sweetness (thanks @jrochot.bsky.social for lending me the book!)

A package of kimchi closed by a black metal paperclip
Paperclips.
What you need to close a bag of fresh kimchi.

(Yes this bag is too small. I’ll get a bigger one next time)

And, with no photos, a cool exhibition on the history of my neighborhood - Yau Tsim Mong
(For Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui where I am and Mong Kok)
Learned that Kowloon Park used to be army barracks under the Brits

A Xi’an terracotta statue of a Chinese general
The smiling head of a terracotta small warrior figurine (not from Xi’an but I forgot from where). Definitely a handsome guy. Smiling too.
Hi from the General, and a warrior

Photo from Signal Hill, Kowloon. A verdant garden in the forefront, looking to the Hong Kong skyscrapers across the bay
Ok, found my hashtag for this long stay in Hong Kong, partly wide-eyed tourist, partly visitor at the CEFC.

This is from Signal Hill (the Capetonian in me has been provided with landmarks)
