An embroidery piece in a wooden hoop. Multicolored “layers” or stripes representing a cross section of the earth, are broken up haphazardly by “faults” and green plumes of “magma”. At the very top of the piece, small green beads represent lava, and tiny brass beads represent ash against a black background. It’s called “Yaggy’s Dream”
Levi Walter Yaggy’s grand illustration of the mechanisms of geology, in cross-section. Different layers of rock are rendered in hues of green, blue, pink, & yellow. It shows cracks and faults in the layers, plumes of magma intruding through to form volcanoes and calderas, and clouds & ash in a blue sky.
Next up in my #ApartmentDoorGallery is an embroidery piece based on the work of 19th century science illustrator, Levi Walter Yaggy.
