Kevin Nealon's "Take a Hike" Petition supporting the ATC is pretty rad.

Weather was perfect today, and I took the kids for a brief hike along the AT to the (OG) Washington Monument. The interpretative signs placed along the way were a hit for my young readers.

Took my 5 and 7 year old kids to Harper’s Ferry, across the AT bridge, along the C&O Canal, and up the steep trail to Maryland Heights.

Their first “Mountain Climb” with Dad, and they earned their Sno-Cones afterwards.

End of the hike on Hogback mountain. I drank and sweated off 4 32oz bottles of water.

Finished the weekend strong with a PATC-sponsored hike along the Appalachian Trail in Shenandoah National Park from Jenkins Gap to Hogback Mountain (9.2 miles)

Got started early to beat the heat. Was a good day.

I’m burning vacation time in June like an uncontrolled brush fire because I assume late summer and fall will be crazy with storm-specific work. Today I visited the Appalachian Trail Museum at the Pine Grove (PA) state park

My kids and I in Harper’s Ferry, WV at the confluence of the Potomac (left) and Shenandoah (right) Rivers. We are standing on the Appalachian Trail. The mountain above to the left is in Maryland, and the mountain to the right is in Virginia.

Took the kids down to Harper’s Ferry at the Golden Hour yesterday. Got ice cream, made plans to hike the AT with them, and enjoyed an absolutely perfect end to National Trails Day.

Visited Middleburg Books today. Nice little bookstore in a cool little town (Middleburg, VA)

My TBR stack has enough books for the next two years, but I could not help but grab one on the Appalachian Trail and another related to my day job.

Deep snow is a deal-breaker for our backpacking trip. I don’t have snowshoes, and we need to cover too many miles to slog through snow. But I am worried about cold and wet feet. Shoveling snow in my Danner boots was a good test. Feet stayed warm and dry.

Made a batch of Vaseline-infused cotton balls for the upcoming trip. This, the charcloth I made last week, and a baggie of dryer lint should do the trick (I hope).
