For Thick Trunk Tuesday, a colour close-up photograph of a Vancouver Island Arbutus tree trunk. By shedding its outer layer of bark in distinctive long sheets, it effectively rids itself of harmful mosses, lichens and parasites. The picture shows a portion of the thick trunk, with long, thin, curled strips of reddish-brown bark on one side and the smooth, peeled trunk on the other. The bottom left corner has a few green cedar bows, in the top right corner blurred trees in the distance.

By shedding its outer layer of bark in long, thin sheets, the amazing Arbutus tree rids itself of harmful mosses, lichens and parasites.
