Do I recommend?
As ever with just 1 ep surviving it's hard to recommend any such show. But as this is the earliest surviving TV ep made in LA that wasn't a pre-filmed show and a live TV ep too there is something magical about this experience.

As this is the earliest existing west coast TV ep I had hoped actress Kay Lee would go on to have a TV career. She's only in this and a couple more TVs. Then nothing.
But skip forward 24 years she played the Night Supervisor in "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest"!

From being nominated for an Emmy in early 1949 or late 1948 on the West Coast to being eventually shown late summer 1949 on the East Coast had folk's expectations changed?
East Coast reviews aren't kind but part of that is that the Kinescope was set too brightly.

I'll be kind to the ep. I enjoyed as it's the earliest west coast USA TV drama ep that exists. But by late 1948/early 1949 east coast TV was a couple of years more advanced so you can see how rudimentary this is as a TV production.

The expert is a real professional person he is H. Allen Smith is a criminologist/politician. He's a lot better than the main host to be fair.
His Wikipedia page does not mention this TV series which I find amusing.

What of the eps? Well there are 2 separate 12 minute scenarios per ep. But what really elevates this is that it's interactive. The scenario ends and the two hosts discuss the evidence. That bit should be the best bit but boy the main host has no idea of his lines.

Looking at the ep it's not good so I can see this series being noticed in 1948 as something new but most 1949 TV is superior. Therefore I think that the KTLA transmission dates on the West Coast are 6+ months earlier that the East Coast showings on CBS TV affiliates.

There is a date discrepancy. This series was nominated in the first Emmys (25-Jan-49) for "Most Popular Television Program".
So the series must have aired before then and later than mid 1948 when Kinescopes were invented. So this may be a very rare 1948 Kinescope.
