See It On Your Wall "Tension In The Night" by Charles Cham, 1998 Arty-Fact: Inspired by the first movie he ever watched - the story of an artist with a magic brush - and using his mother’s cake powder on the floor, Charles Cham made his first portrait at the age of five. In the film, everything the artist painted came alive: birds flew away, fish swam off, a woman became real. That early sense of creation as transformation still runs through Cham’s work. "Tension In The Night" explores duality and attraction - the push and pull of opposites. Rooted in the concept of Yin and Yang, the work is not a single image but two paintings on one canvas, each facing in the opposite direction. Tension is held, not resolved.
“There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope.” ~ Bernard Williams
