Screenshot of notes app. It reads: The Stoic Dichotomy of Control is the philosophy of achieving tranquility and wisdom by understanding and distinguishing between what we can and cannot control. I wanted to explore the concept of control and how it connects with sense of self by using the symbology of the Two of Swords, a tarot card that represents choice and the making of decisions unhindered by external influence. The iconography associated with the Two of Swords immediately reminded me of Taemin’s overarching visual language. Beginning with a scan of my NGDA extended edition and including LOTR’s Andúril in reference to the ADVICE jacket imagery, I used a combination of stock imagery and my own photography to create a digital collage and mock up of a tarot deck.
