“It is as you said. I have wronged her. And for that, I owe her an act of repentance. My life in lieu of my own betrayal.” Gale feels a sinking pit in his stomach as the words leave his own lips. But like every other time he talks of his story, he smiles and shrugs. “T’is more than fair, one would think.” Reactions to it have always been mixed. None were good. Some regard him with indifference. Some with righteous anger or terror, to do more with the Netherese affliction that came with it. Some with sadness and pity, with a hint of awkwardness gracing their words of sympathy. Because what do you say to a story like Gale’s? One that had a cautionary tale predating it, beat by beat. There was little to no conversation to be had after regaling one of his story, usually.
Yllias hums in thought, but his eyes stay on Gale. Heart and ears open. For once, someone sat long enough with him to dissect his tale with no judgment behind the intention. Only pure curiosity. Gale had found that under the flat and usual nonchalant demeanor of their de facto leader, lie a deep curiosity to all they laid eyes upon, like a day-old deer newly born. If the newborn deer had swords for hands, and a deep insatiable lust for blood and violence. “...Maybe. But you two were more than just a goddess and her Chosen. You were lovers. Equals, not by power, but by bond.” He says with a shrug. “I don't think I would have asked any ex-partners of mine to kill themselves, no matter how grave the betrayal. I would simply kill them myself.” Morbid as it was, Gale lets out a small chuckle. He turns the sentiment around in his head. At first, he saw no difference. But the longer he pondered, the more he understood Yllias' point. To render his own existence asunder in her name, or to be killed by Mystra’s own hand. One was an act of vengeance. The other, of vainglorious audacity. What right does Mystra have to ask something so grave from someone she had outcasted?
most of them are incomplete, but i think a lot of them are still good !! maybe if i clean these up i can archive them in ao3 someday
