อำดง&เจ้าพี่ AU ชนเผ่ากร้าวจิต-กร้าวใจ ลมกลางคืนพัดเอากลิ่นสนไหม้ลอยคลุ้ง ปรุงให้อากาศโดยรอบหอมฉุน มุ่งให้ผู้หนุนนอนคล้อยหลับลงไป พร้อมเสียงกองไฟปะทุ ปุ-ปะ คล้องจังหวะของราตรี แสงไฟที่ปลิวไสวสาดทาบใบหน้าสวยคม นักรบไร้เสียงนั่งพิงเสาไม้ สะบัดผ้าเช็ดคราบเลือดที่เกรอะกรังบนหอกยาวอย่างเคยชิน แต่สิ่งที่ผิดแปลก คือ ปลายเท้าเรียวของเขากลับมี “หมาข้าศึก” นอนหมอบเชื่อง ราวกับเกิดแล้วเติบโตในเผ่านี้มาแต่แรก ศักดิ์ของมันต่ำกว่า กายจึงต้องหมอบราบสิ้นท่าเยี่ยงนั้น ซ้ำยังไม่แม้แต่จะสนใจ กลิ่นของนักรบอีกตนที่ย่างเท้าเข้ามาใกล้ “เจ้าของคนใหม่” ของมัน
‘หัวหน้าเผ่า‘ ยืนมองจากเงามืด หรี่ตาช้าๆ ก่อนเอ่ย “ ไปเอามันมาจากไหน.. ” เสียงเขาเรียบ แต่แฝงอะไรบางอย่าง ลูกหัวแก้วหัวแหวนหัวเราะคิกในลำคอ พร้อมเอาปลายเท้าเรียวยีหัวมันเบา ๆ “ จากทางใต้.. มันแผดเสียงใส่หมีต่อหน้าข้า ข้าเลยคิดว่ามันน่ารักดี.. ” หมาตัวนั้นเงยหน้าขึ้น เหมือนฟังรู้เรื่อง แล้วลุกขึ้นนั่งอย่างภักดี มันไม่ใช่สัตว์ป่าไร้สติ และรู้ว่าควรอยู่ใต้ใคร ผู้เป็นพ่อหน้านิ่วคิ้วขมวด แขยงความเอาแต่ใจของลูกชาย “ เอากลับไปซะ.. หรือจักให้ข้าเป็นคนฆ่ามันทิ้ง ”
นักรบเลือดร้อนลุกขึ้นยืนเต็มความสูง เงาทอดยาวผ่านแสงไฟ ทาบทับร่างไร้แรงสู้ที่หมอบลู่อยู่ด้านหลัง เขาคือนักล่าที่ไม่มีใครกล้าขวาง แต่กับบิดานั้น ก็ยังดื้อดึงไม่เปลี่ยน “ ของที่ข้าเอามาได้…เรียกว่า ‘ของข้า’ ” แล้วหันตัวเดินผ่านหน้าผู้นำเผ่าไปโดยไม่แยแส รวมถึงหมาตัวนั้นที่ลุกขึ้นกระเพกอย่างน่าสมเพช ก่อนพูดทิ้งท้าย “ ข้าจะทำให้ท่านเห็น.. ว่าหมาตัวนี้ ล่าได้เก่งกว่า ‘เสือ’ ของท่าน ที่วัน ๆ เอาแต่กินนอน อยู่ในคอกหมูที่ท่านเลี้ยง ” ผู้บังเกิดเกล้ายืนนิ่ง สายตาพินิจกายกำยำนั่น ที่กลับทำท่าสำออย เดินต้อยติดเจ้าของมันอย่างไม่รู้สึกอาย ก่อนรอยยิ้มบางจะคลี่ขึ้นบนใบหน้าผู้เป็นพ่อ เมื่อเห็นหน่อเนื้อเชื้อไขของตน ที่ยิ่งนับวัน… เงานั้นยิ่งทาบทับตัวเขาอย่างน่าขัน
