#BIPOCQTchat I think of the next generation. What can I do to leave this world better than when I found it? Also, there's room for mixed emotion. Pride, peace ans joy for finally accepting myself for who I am. And rage, remorse, and longing, for what could've been if I hadn't grown up Mormon lol

Every day I'm alive is a celebration of queer life and creativity but I wish I could be present in real life local spaces. It's not likely because of my disability situation but I can still dream about a day when it's possible for me and continue to support my pals though my phone #BIPOCQTChat

I wish I was better at balancing my existentialism about our political climate. I don't have any proven way of balancing, but what I'm starting to do is to partake in grassroots movements, and to read the works of activists from the 20th century to see the roots of our current discord.

It’s tough to balance. I try to focus on how far we’ve come. Today I made a rainbow stack of queer books and they were almost all from BIPOC authors! You couldn’t do that even five years ago (at least, in traditional). I feel lucky to be where we are and I want to help go further still

This is a tough one but I think that accepting my queerness has made me a better writer. It forced me to think about myself and my art in new ways and that also makes my voice more unique and authentically A.Z. #BIPOCQTChat

I think it’s hard for me to remember to celebrate. I feel like when it comes to pride I get very protective and angry and it’s hard to find queer joy. I’m not sure how to remedy that.

#BIPOCQTchat omg I mean everything I write is influenced by my identity. But I always try to think of future generations who have to experience difficult things like queerness in high demand religion, adoption trauma, being mixed race in a world of boxes etc. Its about uplifting minority voices!!

my identity is intrinsic to my writing and the way my characters navigate the world. while i don't particularly love making it the point of my work, it's always going hand in hand with how i perceive and write stories #BIPOCQTchat

5. Honestly I’m not the best at balancing things. I do want to be better about remembering to celebrate and rest just as much as I fight so I don’t get burned out and lose motivation.

I feel like it’s everything, no? Every moment has accumulated to make me, me. And thus those moments inform my work, bc they’re a piece of me. My love of dogs. My fascination with Waffle House. My insecurity about money, my mom issues, the fact that I love pokemon. It’s all me!

In a lot of aspects, now that I think about it. I share a career w/ my MC in paramedicine. My education in history informs my worldbuilding & political/religious implications on the plot/characters. My current education helps identify economic fractures/tensions b/w countries in my ms.

tbh I’m not sure how to put it into words, my work just feels inextricable from who I am no matter what.

I’ve been playing around with a for-fun project about white people in rural New Hampshire but even that is a perspective I’m speculating and peeking in on as myself, right?

4. I feel like I get a lot of inspiration from the chaos of my Mexican family shenanigans. I have a really big, really fun family and our culture absolutely seeps into my writing

*me scrambling desperately among my thousand WIPs*

Line from my rom com (that I’m not editing, shhhh):

“No one’s ever looked at me like that. Like I wasn’t an insufferable disaster. Like I wasn’t annoying, a failure, too much. She looked at me like I was someone to be loved.”
