Cracking lineup from @maltmusings.bsky.social. Choosing 5 port matured or finished drams to keep the members of the Blind Tasting Consortium entertained was not an easy challenge. Great drams in great company as always, cheers Brian #BTC62
Thanks to @maltmusings.bsky.social Brian for tonight's port-finished drams, I really enjoyed tasting those!
i think that deserves to be your highest-scoring Blind Drams selection yet?
#BlindDrams #BTC62
the nose gave them away!
#BlindDrams #BTC62
#BTC62 scores for tonight’s drams 3,2,3,4,3
#BlindDrams
#BTC62 Dram 5 palate delivers heat, sweetness and a salty note. Leaves a fiery note on the finish, Bombay mix in a glass but not unpleasant, difficult to pinpoint a score but overall a 3
#BlindDrams
S5: Nice texture on the palate, but not interesting enough to score higher than a 2
#BlindDrams #BTC62
R5: water removes the funk from the nose and adds more Christmas cake to the palate
#BlindDrams #BTC62
P5: thick, sweet and acidic; ginger pieces in syrup, Christmas cake, tobacco leaf, blackcurrant jam
#BlindDrams #BTC62
#BTC62 Dram 5. Red blush in colour. Beads easily before slowly forming legs. Fresh on the nose, artificial sweetness, dried strawberry’s,, fruit loops and pouring honey.
#BlindDrams
N5: funky and astringent; farmyard funk, fresh blackcurrants, cheap baked beans
#BlindDrams #BTC62
5th and final dram in this month's #BlindDrams #BTC62 "Any Port in a Storm" with Brian @maltmusings.bsky.social
E5: blush peach
S4: A solid 3 for this dram, rather tasty!
#BlindDrams #BTC62
#BTC62 Dram 4 on the palate continues the orange bitters theme. Warming and rich with a lingering warmth, habanero peppers, dark chocolate and orange peel. Most appealing dram of the night so far, scrapes a 4
#BlindDrams
R4: water sweetens both nose and palate to give candy cigarettes
#BlindDrams #BTC62
P4: thick, sweet and savoury; sticky toffee pudding, char siu pork, burnt gammon fat (extending into the finish)
#BlindDrams #BTC62
#BTC62 Dram 4. Polished teak in colour, good being with the beads slowly combining into teardrop shaped slow moving legs. Salted caramel dark chocolate with a touch of orange bitters
#BlindDrams
N4: meaty and funky; bacon frazzles, roast glazed ham, burnt caramel
#BlindDrams #BTC62
4th dram in this month's #BlindDrams #BTC62 "Any Port in a Storm" with Brian @maltmusings.bsky.social
E4: dark bronze, blush orange skin
#BTC62 Dram 3, no half’s allowed so difficult decision but settled on a 3
#BlindDrams
R3:some water adds wood (pencil shavings) to the nose, while the palate gains sweetened black tea
S3: I'll score this one a 2, mainly for the nose. Let down by the overly-bitter palate
#BlindDrams #BTC62
#BTC62 Dram 3 on the palate is both sweet and drying. Initial taste shows an intense Demerara sugar sweetness with a touch of coffee before lapsing into an intense, cloying and slightly unpleasant dryness. A drop of H2O produces a slightly better balance but a lingering fiery note
#BlindDrams
P3: hot, fruity and bitter; ancho chillies, blackcurrant Ribena syrup, Campari
#BlindDrams #BTC62
N3: dark, fruity and musty; tawny port, strawberries in syrup, peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches, balsamic strawberries
#BlindDrams #BTC62
#BTC62 Dram 3. Rich burnished copper in colour. Obvious beading then after taking its time thick oily legs develop. Rich on the nose, sweet dried fruit, Medjool dates, fruit pastels reveal themselves after a high abv spirit.

3rd dram in this month's #BlindDrams #BTC62 "Any Port in a Storm" with Brian @maltmusings.bsky.social
E3: mid-bronze, fake president tan
R2: some water shifts the gorgonzola from the palate to the nose, while the palate gains fairy liquid
S2: Only a 1 for this dram. The excellent nose was let down by the acidic palate and poor reduction
#BlindDrams #BTC62
#BTC62 Dram 2 palate delivers better than the nose but only by the muddy dogs cold nose. A sharp salty spice and artificial sweetness leaving a warm mouth feel but no lasting depth.
A challenging dram that scores a 2
#BlindDrams
P2: sharp, fruity and creamy; the pencil shavings and mouldy strawberries from the nose are joined by gorgonzola dolce cheese and an acidic finish
#BlindDrams #BTC62
#BlindDrams #BTC62 Dram 2, quite woody, spicy and sharp. Softens out with a bit of sweetness, though the lingering finish is bitter. Dram 1 was better, but this doesn't quite meet a zero so - Score 1
#BTC62 Dram 2: colour of a rich Rose wine. Beading in glass which slowly develops into very slow mowing legs. Spirity on the nose which try’s to overpower other notes. Damp cardboard & muddy dog before a touch of Lemon Curd sweetness starts to break through
