Allied warships tried to force passage through the Dardanelles during the #BattleOfGallipoli, and on #ThisDayInHistory in 1915 lost three #battleships to #Ottoman naval mines and gunfire. Land attacks to make future naval action easier also resulted in clear Ottoman victories.
