I love the sound of a bellowing alligator. It is a very iconic sound from an alligator. The sound might be used for mating purposes, but it can also be used to establish territory. When territorial disputes arise, it can lead to fights. #alligator #bellowing #spring #foryoupage #amazinganimals

#bellowing buffalo
a proud herd
stampedes across
the plain
their hooves thunder
in a ghostly rumble
the clouds
of dust fade with time
into a long ago memory
not quite forgotten.

Down mountain’s way,
smoke bellowing
from an open mouth.
Not a clean breath
passes the lips
of this great polluter.

Eyes stinging, lungs wheezing,
children of the night gasping,
yet still we carry on
with hope of one last clean river.

Bellowing rolls through
the valley’s throat,
a muscular weather of sound,
shaking rafters and ribcages alike.
What once seemed distant
arrives uninvited,
claiming the air,
insisting on witness,
until silence itself trembles
with remembered thunder.

Bull bellowing at
Full charge, a pants-filling sound,
Turns legs to jelly.

Why am I almost always in the same train carriage as the perennial bellowing throbber who thinks their irksome phone call is for EVERYBODY?

Against a soft, blurred background of an avenue of chestnut trees in shades of green with hints of yellow, brown and orange leaves on dark shaded trunks that rise above a grass lawn, scattered with leaves fallen early due to drought stress, is a Red Deer Stag. He is lying on the ground in the lower left of the image with his head turning towards the right, raised up as he bellows loudly to signal his presence to both adversaries and hinds as the annual Deer Rut, or breeding season, begins. His antlers are titled back with the tines pointing upwards, looking like a gothic candelabra. With over 16 tines on his antlers this stag is known as a Monarch. The red deer is Britain’s largest land mammal. When fully grown males (stags) weigh between 90 to 190kg and stand at around 1.07 to 1.37m tall at the shoulder. Red deer are a distinctive rusty red colour in summer turning to a brown winter coat. The rut usually occurs from the end of September to November. Stags rcompete for hinds by engaging in elaborate displays of dominance including roaring, parallel walks, and fighting. Fights are always the last resort! Reaching speeds of 30mph a large stag can cause a lot of damage. In fact, if a person gets in the way and is hit, it’s the same as being struck by a motorcycle at that speed. Both The Royal Parks and The British Deer Society have important information about watching and photographing deer safely, especially during the rut. In the Deer Society’s Code of Conduct there are 3 points that I feel are key, not just when photographing deer, but for all wildlife. I’ve highlighted them here and include links to the websites for both organisations.

1 - Research your subject beforehand and avoid risking harm to capture an image

2 - Educate others by your actions; enhance their understanding

3 - Treat the wildlife, plants and places as if you were their guest

Alligators can be very vocal animals. Bellowing is one of the ways that they communicate with each other. It can be for mating purposes, a territorial display, or just a way to remind the other gators who is around. #alligator #bellowing #coloradogators #foryoupage

Alligators bellow as a way to talk to each other. This is Mr Bo Mangles is our large male Albino Alligator here at Colorado Gators.

Don’t try to get this close to an alligator. It can be dangerous. I’m a professional
