On Monday 21st of July 2025, President Higggins signed the Bereaved Partner's Pension and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill into law.

On 13th of May Treoir met with Minister Dara Calleary for an update on the Widow's pension, this is the current legislation:
-The Bill is planned to be passed before July.
-Payments for eligible cohabitants will be back paid from 22/1/24.
-Widow's grant will not be backdated
