Based on their 1983 novel of the same name and screenwritten by #BernardMacLaverty, is the 1984 #PatOConnor directed drama #Cal which starred #JohnLynch and #HelenMirren - first of the two I watched at #HOMEmcr this evening.

Cal: Helen Mirren Troubles film remastered 40 years after release Since 1984, Cal had become lost, the only remaining version a poor quality 35mm that left the author "ashamed".

Cal. Possibly one of the best books & films from the dark days of #TheTroubles. Soundtrack by Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler, with some Ultravox thrown in to make you cry. This spoke to my generation. #BernardMacLaverty 's "Lamb" is another great read from those times. #Cal
