This mature Silver #Birch tree is slowly dying. It’s one of the biggest birches along our little burn (stream) and always feels welcoming and peaceful. In its #senescence the bark is peeling off, insects are boring into its wood. It makes me sad.

These #catkins (flower spikes) belong to a silver #birch, #Betula pendula, near the River #Traun in #UpperAustria. Male catkins hang down, female catkins at this point are smaller & upright.
