A final exam question from my #Bio350 microbiology course that made me laugh out loud. This was from a student who called me the “OG” for “original germ.” @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @microbe.tv
Back in the office this morning, with a handful of Campylobacter jejuni handmade by a #Bio350 #Micronaut from last year! @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @microbe.tv
If you encourage and reward creativity, it translates into knowledge outcomes. Please enjoy this extra credit creative project made by a #Bio350 #Micronaut from a couple of years ago. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @microbe.tv
For many many years, I have asked my #Bio350 #Micronauts to create memes that connect microbiology concepts and resonate with them . It really helps students *get* the fundamental nature of microbiology. @ASMicrobiology @univpugetsound @microbe.tv
When I have my students produce creative projects, they impress me so. #Micronaut Chianna created this view of the establishment of symbiosis for my last #Bio350 course. *I* think it is wonderful, and will frame it. My lab and office are filled with student creations, after all.
I think I should print this out and send it to every one of the #Micronauts in my last #Bio350 microbiology course. It's a very new perspective I hope I promoted to them...and their component organisms. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology
Two of my #Bio350 #Micronauts, Sami and Abby, created something very special for their Microbiology creative project. I'm not crying, YOU are crying! Seriously, I have been lucky to work with students for over thirty years now. Here is why. @microbetv.bsky.social

I so enjoy showing off the creativity of #MicrobialEnthusiasts with #LuxArt. Here are four from my #Bio350 #Micronauts. I will soon have a video to share with all of their fine work. And hopefully, I can get invitations to put on #LuxArt sessions next semester and beyond! @microbetv.bsky.social
A new enamel pin with my future motto: “Microbiology is FUN-damental.” My #Bio350 #Micronauts all received one. @ASMicrobiology @univpugetsound @microbe.tv
Remembering the time a #Bio350 #Micronaut created some bacterially inspired stained glass as a creative project. So many nice memories. @asmicrobiology @univpugetsound @MicrobeTV
For my #Bio350 #Microbiology lecture before Thanksgiving, I played a great video by Rachel Dutton and Ben Wolfe about cheese and microbiology. I promoted the two podcasts I did with each. Will any of them watch or listen? I hope so. @ASMicrobiology @univpugetsound
I asked my #Bio350 #Micronauts to write down the name of a prokaryote that struck them with #OMG and WTM feelings. We talked about them in class These are just two examples. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @microbe.tv MicrobialCentrism DontFearTheMicrobe
I have to say that the creativity of my #Bio350 #Micronauts at the University of Puget Sound amazes me...every. Single. Time. Just ASK them to be creative. You will not be sorry. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @microbetv.bsky.social #MicrobialCreativity
I have to say that the creativity of my #Bio350 #Micronauts at the University of Puget Sound amazes me...every. Single. Time. Just ASK them to be creative. You will not be sorry. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @microbetv.bsky.social #MicrobialCreativity
I am going to have my #Bio350 #Micronauts sign this pillowcase soon as a memento of my last microbiology course at the University of Puget Sound. #Memories. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @microbe.tv MicrobialCentrism
Long ago, a #Micronaut named Mariko in my #Bio350 microbiology course at the University of Puget Sound came up with this motto. I will always love it. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @microbe.tv
My #Bio350 #Micronauts often find the most unusual things to show me. Here is a swab from the straw of a water bottle. The clear areas are most likely gliders, pushing other microbes away. Phage are unlikely since the background is many of many taxa. #WildMicrobesRule #ObservationIsKey
Here is a great example of a creative extra credit project from my #Bio350 #Micronauts at @univpugetsound Also very funny and true. @asmicrobiology @MicrobeTV
My #Bio350 #Micronauts always find the most interesting isolates. Here is a fascinating isolate from moss. It starts out supermucoid, then the center of the colony slumps, forming “donut colonies.” #MicrobiologyIsStrangeAndWonderful. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology @microbe.tv
A #Micronaut in a prior #microbiology #Bio350 course at @univpugetsound.bsky.social made this for me a couple of years ago. I will miss working with students very much. @asmicrobiology @microbe.tv
My #Bio350 #Micronauts and the University of Puget Sound make me happy so often. I will miss working with them! @univpugetsound @asmicrobiology @microbe.tv
Here at @univpugetsound, my #Bio350 #Micronauts are testing microbes THEY isolate from lichens or mosses for antibacterial activity. Some promising candidates! @asmicrobiology @TinyEarthNet
See why I adore working with undergraduate students? #Bio350 #Micronauts @univpugetsound @asmicrobiology
My #Bio350 #Micronauts at @univpugetsound make me so happy with their sense of microbiological humor. #SwabTheWorld @ASMicrobiology
Sniff. My last #Bio350 class at the University of Puget Sound. Nineteen #Micronauts. I am so lucky to have been able to do this, and I hope that I can continue to find ways to do outreach and promote #MicrobialCentrism. #GratefulProf @univpugetsound @asmicrobiology @microbe.tv
The #Bio350 course T-shirts for the #Micronauts of the last microbiology course I will teach at the University of Puget Sound. 20 years of great students and fun teaching. Art by Lizah van der Aart. @ASMicrobiology @microbetv.bsky.social @univpugetsound @lizahaart.bsky.social
What we did this week in my #Bio350 #Microbiology course at @univpugetsound. Agar “pitters,” pigmented bacteria, and a search for antibiotic producing microbes! @asmicrobiology @MicrobeTV #MicronautsRule #MicrobialCentrism
I have been quite sad at looming retirement, & I wanted to show you why. I made a joke the other day in microbiology lecture, telling #Bio350 #Micronauts at the University of Puget Sound to “keep me in the loop” as they studied. The inoculating loop! A #Micronaut just sent this to me! @microbe.tv
Time to chat about Angelina Hesse, cooking, agar, Petri dishes, marine microbiology, and agarases. @univpugetsound @asmicrobiology @MicrobeTV #Micronauts #Bio350 #MicrobialCentricity
One of my #Bio350 #Micronauts at @univpugetsound found some agar degrading microbes—-pitters—-from a seawater sample. #MarineMicrobiologicalSafari #MicrobialCentrism @asmicrobiology @MicrobeTV
